The expert told how to protect yourself from hackers when using public Wi-Fi
Connecting to a public wireless internet can result in the loss of personal data. The specialist named the main problem of public Wi-Fi hotspots and gave advice on how to protect the Internet source from hacker attacks, Sputnik radio reports.
Karen Ghazaryan, chief analyst of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications, said that the main vulnerability of a public Wi-Fi hotspot is that traffic transmitted through it is not always encrypted. This enables attackers to steal personal data and other personal information of users.
With the standard settings of public Wi-Fi, all unencrypted data that comes from the user through this point is visible to other people who also use this point. The expert does not recommend logging into the personal account of the bank while connecting to public Wi-Fi. It is preferable to use applications with built-in encryption or use a virtual private network (VPN) so that outgoing traffic is hidden from outsiders.
“It is recommended to use a VPN when working with public Wi-Fi or not enter any sensitive information into any forms. You shouldn't enter passwords, bank data and so on, ”Karen Ghazaryan noted.
