Mass vaccination has started in Russia since the beginning of the year, but there is no herd immunity in the country yet. About nine thousand new cases of COVID-19 infections are recorded every day. The Russian expert told how many antibodies should be in the body so that severe forms of coronavirus can be avoided.
Head of the Laboratory for the Mechanisms of Population Variation of Pathogenic Microorganisms, Gamalei Vladimir Gushchin announced the numbers. According to him, even 3% of antibodies, which were obtained during vaccination, may be sufficient for protection.
Simulations now show that 3% of the residual antibodies obtained from vaccination may be sufficient to protect against severe forms, and 20% is sufficient to protect against clinical manifestation.
According to him, it remains to be seen how long the immunity will decline, as well as how much virus-neutralizing antibodies remain. However, now, according to forecasts of scientists, we are talking about a year or two.
