Moscow. August 27. INTERFAX.RU – There are no fundamental difficulties in creating a supersonic train moving in a vacuum tunnel, such transport will appear in the near future, says Vasily Fomin, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
“There are no fundamental difficulties from the point of view of science and technology,” he said during a discussion at the Technoprom-2021 forum on Friday, answering a question about the prospects for creating a vacuum train moving at a speed of 1200 km per hour.
The academician recalled that for the first time the idea of a vacuum train, which does not interfere with air resistance, was proposed by Russian scientists at the beginning of the 20th century, over a century different countries became leaders in high-speed traffic.
“Apparently, the first train will be launched by the Chinese in two years,” he said.
For his part, Novosibirsk Governor Andrei Travnikov noted that due to the high cost of infrastructure, such transport may turn out to be economically ineffective.
