Alexey Lukatsky, an expert on information security at Cisco Systems, named in an interview with Sputnik radio for Russians a way to protect their computer from hidden penetration.
According to him, slow system performance or periodically pop-up system messages were previously signs of an external intrusion into the computer or a virus. At the moment, Lukatsky said, the user may not know at all that his computer has been hacked, since there are no clear signs of penetration.
The expert emphasized that users will learn that a computer is infected when a ransom demand appears on the screen or the computer stops working. “If the purpose of a malicious program is to steal information, then we may not even know that our computer has been compromised,” Lukatsky said.
The specialist noted that you can protect yourself from the encroachments of hackers with the help of antivirus, but this should be an option that works constantly. He must check all programs that are launched and downloaded to the computer, monitor all files not on a schedule, but in a continuous mode. At the same time, when choosing an antivirus, one should give preference to its effectiveness, rather than price.
Previously, Windows was hacked with homemade themes. To do this, an attacker only needs to edit the theme file and add information there to connect to a specific remote server. This method of hacking computers is called a Pass-the-hash attack and is common in the cyber environment.
