The columnist for the American edition of the National Interest explained why the Soviet T-80 tank is not obsolete to this day.
According to the expert, there is an opinion that the T-80 tank is futile. However, the expert claims, practice has shown the erroneousness of this judgment.
The expert called the tank's trump card a powerful gas turbine unit. It can work efficiently even in extreme cold conditions. Usually, tank engines are usually designed for a long warm-up period, and all this time the combat vehicle is practically non-operational. The T-80 unit is ready for full operation in frosty conditions in just a minute.
The expert believes that the T-80 is a formidable combat vehicle, not inferior to the T-72B3.
Recall that in 2019, Russian troops received modernized T-80BVM tanks. They have higher firepower, protection, mobility and controllability.
