The European Union will terminate the agreement with Russia on the simplified issuance of visas

The European Union (EU) terminates the visa facilitation agreement with Russia on February 28. This is stated in a document published in the official journal of the EU, RIA Novosti reports.

The suspension of the bilateral agreement will affect holders of diplomatic passports, businessmen and company representatives, members of official delegations who are sent to participate in consultations, meetings and exchange programs.

Visas under the simplified procedure will not be issued to members of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, representatives of regional governments and parliaments of Russia. The mentioned categories will have to pay a visa fee for processing applications from citizens.

Earlier it became known that the Czech Republic decided to stop issuing visas and temporary residence permits to Russian citizens because of the situation in Ukraine, and also suspended the work of consulates general in two cities: St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The republic also closed the Russian Consulate General in Karlovy Vary and Brno. A similar decision was made by Latvia, Vilnius recalled the ambassador from Russia.
