Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Vera Yurova supported the decision of the Polish leader to block the draft law restricting the participation of foreign capital in television and radio companies. She announced this in her Twitter account.

“I welcome the statement by President Duda that he vetoed this law. This is an important signal for a dialogue on freedom of the media, ”she said about the EU's veto of the controversial draft law.

Earlier on Monday, December 27, the Polish leader vetoed the controversial law and sent it to the Diet for a new consideration, since, in his opinion, the country would be hurt by a dispute that would arise if it was approved.

This law triggered a wave of protests across the country. According to the Polish opposition, the bill is an encroachment on freedom of the media in order to stop the activities of the TV channel, which is objectionable to the country's authorities.

On December 22, it became known that the European Commission is launching a legal procedure against Poland for violating EU laws amid a dispute over the decision of Warsaw on the supremacy of the national constitution over European law. Thus, the commission expressed doubts about the independence and impartiality of the Constitutional Court of Poland.
