The chief negotiator of the European Union on Brexit Michel Barnier said that the deal on the new terms of relations with the UK has been postponed. Reported by Reuters.

“At this stage, an agreement between the UK and the European Union seems unlikely. We in the European Union are very concerned about the state of our negotiations. The clock is ticking, ”an alliance representative said about the negotiations. He also uttered the phrase about the small chances of reaching an agreement before the end of 2020.

It is known that the EU and Britain cannot find a compromise, in particular, on the issue of fishing. London is reluctant to provide access for European fishermen to their areas, recalling that this is incompatible with the UK's status as an independent state.

The UK officially left the European Union on February 1, 2020. By the end of this year, the parties agreed on a transitional period, during which most of the laws of the European Union will continue to operate. However, in July the parties terminated regular negotiations ahead of schedule, as they could not come to an agreement on a number of issues.
