If a company violates the requirements, it faces a fine of up to 6% of its global profits.
The European Union has launched an audit Elon Musk's social networks X/Twitter. They are suspected of possibly violating the Digital Services Act and spreading disinformation.
This was announced by the European Commissioner for Internal Trade and Services Thierry Breton.
As noted, the Digital Services Act requires major online platforms and search engines to strengthen efforts to combat illegal content and risks to public safety, as well as to protect against online manipulation.
If a company violates these requirements, it faces a fine of up to 6% of its worldwide profits.
At the same time, the investigation into Musk’s social network will be the first after the adoption of the law. During it, specialists will pay attention to the platform's methods of increasing transparency, and to the design of the user interface, which can be misleading – for example, blue checkmarks on the account, posing as a paid subscription.
Recall that X could lose up to $75 million due to Musk’s reaction to anti-Semitism on the platform.
