The European Union expanded sanctions over the Crimean bridge

The European Union has extended sanctions over the Crimean Bridge. They affected two individuals and four companies involved in its construction, according to a publication in the official EU journal.

The restrictive measures included Alexander Ganov, General Director of Grand Service Express, and Leonid Ryzhenkin, Deputy General Director of Infrastructure Projects at Stroygazmontazh. Also, the sanctions will affect the company “Lenpromtransproekt”, the Directorate for the construction of the Berkakit – Tommot – Yakutsk railway, the Crimean railway, the Crimean first insurance company.

The fact that the EU has approved and is preparing to introduce new sanctions became known on September 28. The Russian side is considered guilty of “violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.”

The bridge across the Kerch Strait connected the Crimea peninsula and the Krasnodar Territory, its length is 19 kilometers, it has become the longest in Russia. The structure was built at the expense of the federal budget, its total cost amounted to almost 228 billion rubles. The automobile part of the bridge was opened on May 15, 2018, the movement of cars and buses was launched the next day. The first train from St. Petersburg to the peninsula departed on December 23, and from Moscow – on December 24 last year.
