The European Union decided to impose sanctions against Putin and Lavrov

The head of diplomacy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, said that the foreign ministers of the countries of the organization decided to impose sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, TASS.b reports.

At a press conference following an emergency meeting of foreign ministers from 27 EU countries in Brussels, Borrell said that the participants in the meeting had decided to put Putin and Lavrov on the sanctions list. He added that the Council of the European Union approved the second package of personal and economic sanctions against Russia.

According to the head of European diplomacy, all options for new restrictions, including Russia's disconnection from SWIFT, “remain on the table.”

Earlier, the European Union prepared to adopt new sanctions against State Duma deputies. This was announced by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi. He stressed that he would return to this topic next Tuesday, March 1.

The European Union imposed sanctions against 351 State Duma deputies and another 27 individuals and legal entities. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, stressed that the measures do not have a magical effect, but are painful.
