Moldova is on the right track in implementing key reforms and deserves to receive the status of a merit-based EU candidate.
Against the background of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, and the aggravation of the situation in the separatist region of Transnistria, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it approves Moldova's application for EU membership.
About this reported on the website of the European Parliament.
The adopted document states that Moldova is on the right track in implementing key reforms and deserves to receive the status of a merit-based EU candidate.
The resolution specifically notes that the neighboring country has suffered disproportionately from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, hosting more than 450 thousands of Ukrainian refugees, of which almost 100 thousand remain in the country. In this regard, the MEPs call on the EU to provide macro-financial assistance to Moldova.
The adopted document also expresses serious concern over the latest developments in the territory of the Transnistrian region, where a number of security incidents have occurred, which are considered by MEPs as dangerous acts of provocation.< /p>
The European deputies recalled that Moldova applied for EU membership on March 3, 2022, following a similar step by the Ukrainian side.
As previously reported, in April, Chisinau handed over to the EU a completed questionnaire showing the readiness of the country become a candidate for EU membership.
