The European Union (EU) will continue to impose sanctions and restrictive measures against Russia. This is reported by TASS with reference to the European Commissioner for European Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni.

“The [sanctions] package approved yesterday is very important and effective, but not the last,” he said ahead of an informal meeting of the community's economy ministers in Paris.

On February 25, TASS reported that the leaders of the countries of the European Union (EU) were preparing a third package of sanctions in response to the military operation in the Donbass. According to the interlocutor of the agency, “practically from the very beginning of the summit, the leaders have been discussing the preparation of a third package of sanctions,” which may include disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT international payment system, but there is no single decision on this issue among them yet. In particular, Germany opposes such a measure, the diplomat noted.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation in the Donbass. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia. Kiev began the evacuation of embassy staff from Moscow.
