Putin is trying to force Ukraine to capitulate, and if that happens, he will go further.
The EU will speed up the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine and will focus on this in the near future.
This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during the annual conference of EU diplomats on February 4.
She stressed that supporting the Ukrainian resistance is a key priority, because the security of all of Europe depends on it.
Von der Leyen stressed that Russia's war against Ukraine remains the main crisis that will determine the future of Europe. According to her, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is trying to force Ukraine to capitulate, and if this happens, he will go further.
“This is not just about the fate of Ukraine – the fate of Europe is at stake. Therefore, our first priority is to give strength to the Ukrainian resistance,” she added.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the EU has already provided Ukraine with 134 billion euros in aid. At the same time, the European Commission noted the need to speed up the supply of weapons and ammunition.
“Thanks to the Ukrainian Fund and the G7 loan, we have closed Ukraine's budget deficit for the entire 2025. In parallel, we must speed up the immediate delivery of weapons and ammunition. This will be the focus of our work in the coming weeks,” von der Leyen said.
Recall that earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Ursula von der Leyen of “dragging Europe into a losing war.”
