The EU is ready to finance training missions from the European Peace Fund.
The European Union proposed increasing the number of Ukrainian military personnel undergoing combat training in EU. According to Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, the number of trained soldiers must be increased to 100 thousand by the end of the year.
Channel 24 writes about this.
Pevkur believes that the previous decision to increase training programs for the Ukrainian military from 40 to 60 thousand by the end of August is not enough. He noted that Russia's great pressure at the front requires even greater efforts from Europe.
“We need to go to even greater expense. I think it's okay to send a very clear signal that we will increase the number of Ukrainian soldiers in training to 100 thousand if the Ukrainians send them for training “, said Pevkur.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell supported Pevkur's proposal and said that the EU is ready to finance the training of the Ukrainian military from the European Peace Fund. He noted that the EU training mission was “very successful.”
“Of course, Ukraine wants to increase the conscription, wants to increase the number of troops. A soldier without training is a useless soldier. A soldier without training is just killing people without providing any support in battles,” Borrell emphasized.
Recall that Borrell commented on the offensive in the Kharkov region. The EU High Representative gave the reason for possible big changes on the front line, the cost of which could be the loss of many lives.
