The EU has no reason to doubt the effectiveness of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. This was stated by European Commissioner Thierry Breton at a press conference.
“Yes, I think Sputnik is a good vaccine. There are good scientists in Russia, so I have no reason to doubt [the quality of the vaccine], ”Breton said.
He added that the vaccine needs to be produced in the EU. He believes that the European Commission should help with this, but at the same time it is necessary to assess the production capacities of Europe: the European Commissioner recalled that all of them are already involved in the production of drugs.
On March 15, Reuters reported, citing sources, about the intention of the EU countries to enter into negotiations with the developers of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus. It is noted that the launch of the process will require requests from four EU countries. Moreover, according to the agency's interlocutor, Italy is exploring the possibility of manufacturing “Sputnik V” at the ReiThera plant, where the country's largest bioreactor for the production of vaccines is located.
