In order for the European Union (EU) to recognize Russian COVID-certificates, Moscow must send a corresponding request. However, the association has not received such a letter, EU Ambassador Markus Ederer said at a press conference in the Russian capital. He is quoted by RBC.

The diplomat said that the parties discussed the mutual recognition of certificates back in October 2021. During the meeting, Russia confirmed that it wants to reach an agreement, but did not send a corresponding request to the EU.

Mutual recognition of COVID-certificates will allow vaccinated citizens of European countries and Russia to make mutual trips without the need to provide additional documents. In addition, such an agreement will relieve Moscow of the need to seek recognition of the Sputnik V vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
