The leaders of the EU countries decided to prepare more sanctions against the financial institutions of Russia, although this will damage the economies of the union states. This was stated by the head of the French Ministry of Finance Bruno Le Maire during a briefing.

According to him, prepared sanctions will be disastrous for Russian financial institutions. “We must also understand that these sanctions will affect the economies of European countries, especially those who are actively engaged in trade exchanges with Russia, especially in the energy sector,” concluded Le Maire.

On Thursday, February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation to protect Donbass. After that, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Moscow. In response, the leaders of 27 EU countries imposed a number of anti-Russian sanctions, including against 351 State Duma deputies, another 27 individuals and legal entities, as well as a number of Russian banks.
