The feeling of “butterflies in the stomach” is associated with the reaction of the nervous system and an increase in the level of hormones of joy, said endocrinologist, obstetrician-gynecologist Ekaterina Sheremetyeva, RIA Novosti writes.
According to her, this feeling can arise even from memories. “This is a reaction of the sympathetic nervous system associated with an increase in the level of endorphins and other hormones of joy, which increases blood flow to the abdominal organs,” the specialist explained. According to the doctor, the effect of hormones on love is beyond doubt. Eight hormones influence the appearance of this feeling in the male and female body: testosterone, estrogens, oxytocin, endorphins, dopamine, adrenaline, serotonin, vasopressin.
So, testosterone is responsible for attraction to the opposite sex, estrogens contribute to sexual satisfaction. Oxytocin is called the hormone of hugs, trust. According to the doctor, he begins to act at the beginning of the novel and makes the lovers kiss.
In addition, during the candy-bouquet period of relationships, the neurohormone dopamine begins to be actively produced. As a result, a person experiences positive emotions. “Adrenaline causes goosebumps and a surge of emotions when you see your partner,” the endocrinologist emphasized.
The hormone vasopressin is responsible for attachment in “mature” love, and scientists call endorphins “molecules of long-term love relationships.”
Earlier, psychologists from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands conducted a study on the phenomenon of “love at first sight” and concluded that it does not exist.
