The Embassy of Ukraine has sent an official letter to the German Government. In it, the Germans are asked to provide defensive weapons.
This is reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung. According to the publication, the letter lists in detail what Ukraine would like to receive from Germany.
Among them there are anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense ammunition, ammunition for machine guns (caliber 23 mm, 30 mm). Ukraine also asks for immediate assistance in the urgent acquisition of medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-drone weapons, portable anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic tracking systems, night vision devices and surveillance cameras.
The Süddeutsche Zeitung notes thatUkraine needs digital radio stations, radar stations, reconnaissance stations, underwater locators, ambulances, anti-sniper systems, mine protection systems, vehicles with increased mine protection and robots for the neutralization of explosive devices, as well as remote detonation systems.
In the letter, the Ukrainian side explains that the need for these funds arose due to the tense security situation and the threat of Russian aggression. Therefore, Kiev asks to consider the application as soon as possible.
At the end of January, the official representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany, Steffen Gebestreit, said that Germany excludes the possibility of supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine.
He explained this position by the fact that Germany does not export weapons to crisis regions. According to him, the settlement of the conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation is possible only through a diplomatic path.
