The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published the results of testing a new American vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus by biotechnology company Moderna. It turned out that the effectiveness of the drug after the second dose reaches 95 percent. Reported by NPR.
According to an FDA document, the vaccine is safe and serious adverse reactions were rare. Among the unpleasant consequences, experts call painful sensations at the injection site, fatigue and headaches. Both vaccinations are given 28 days apart. However, for older people (65 years of age and older), the effectiveness of the vaccine decreases slightly and reaches 86 percent.
The FDA will ask a panel of experts to assess whether the available scientific evidence is sufficient to authorize the emergency use of Moderna vaccine. They will also determine what additional research the company should conduct to further evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
