The effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine was lower than declared

The efficacy of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine was 3 percent lower than previously announced. The firm announced this after testing the drug in the United States, a statement posted on its website.

Studies have shown that it saves from the course of COVID-19 with symptoms in 76 percent of cases, and not in 79, as was previously thought. At the same time, the effectiveness in preventing severe cases of the disease requiring hospitalization is still 100 percent, and the effectiveness in use on patients aged 65 years and older is 85 percent.

Earlier on March 25, it became known that the Ministry of Health of Canada added a warning about the possibility of thrombosis to the instruction of the drug AstraZeneca, although there was no such case recorded in the country.

Currently, a number of European countries have suspended or banned vaccination with AstraZeneca due to the detection of thrombosis in vaccinated patients. Meanwhile, the creators of the vaccine insist on its safety. The company said that a detailed study of the health status of more than 17 million people after vaccination showed no data on an increased risk of pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis or thrombocytopenia.

Representatives of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), in turn, reported 22 cases of thrombosis per three million AstraZeneca vaccinated in the EU.
