President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader announced the construction of a wall on the border with Haiti to fight illegal migration and cross-border crime. He stated this during his speech to parliament, which was published on the head of state's Twitter page.
He promised that in the second half of 2021 security measures on the border with a neighboring country will be strengthened. They will combine physical and technological means, including a double wall in the most conflict areas, in addition to motion sensors, face recognition cameras, radars and infrared systems.
According to the predictions of the Dominican leader, these restrictions will put an end to illegal migration, drug trafficking and the transit of stolen vehicles in the next two years.
Former US President Donald Trump promised to build a wall on the border with Mexico during his 2016 election campaign. He introduced a state of emergency on the territory of the country in order to redistribute funds from other projects. In the summer of 2019, the Supreme Court approved the allocation of $ 2.5 billion from Pentagon funds for the construction of the wall. The current owner of the White House, Joe Biden, has stopped construction of the wall.
Also, the wall was built by Greece to prevent a massive violation of the border by migrants from the Turkish side.
