Infectious disease doctor, chief physician of the Leader-Medicine medical center, Evgeny Timakov, revealed the features of the postcoid delta-strain syndrome. The specialist suggested that it would more often affect the central nervous system, Sputnik radio reports.
Timakov recalled that postcoid syndrome means a set of certain symptoms, including weakness, memory impairment and headaches. These ailments remain with the patient for some time and after recovery from COVID-19. If earlier such symptoms were more often experienced by older people, now “the postcovid has become younger.”
“Most likely, postcoid syndrome will more affect the central nervous system and will have a very strong effect on immune factors. Children after suffering a coronavirus infection will get sick longer. The effect on reproductive function in young people is being studied, this is still in question. All other coronavirus manifestations also persist, ”Timakov emphasized.
You can protect yourself from postcoid syndrome in the same way as from the virus itself – with the help of vaccination. Doctors specializing in the rehabilitation of patients with postcoid syndrome did not observe it in vaccinated Russians.
The expert emphasized that he personally had not yet met a description of the syndrome in a vaccinated person. Preliminary, it can be assumed that vaccination is an effective means for the prevention of postcoid syndrome, concluded Timakov.
Previously, the immunologist estimated the duration of the effects of COVID-19. He noted that postcoid syndrome lasts for three months, and after it a chronic form of defects appears that can persist for many years.
