Not all patients who have had a coronavirus infection develop postcoid syndrome, but this can manifest itself in patients who have had a mild or asymptomatic form. This was told by the infectious disease doctor, chief physician of the clinical diagnostic laboratory “Invitro-Siberia”, Andrey Pozdnyakov.
According to RIA Novosti, the expert said that the duration of the postcoid syndrome averages 4-4.5 months from the moment the symptoms appear. He noted that already “compromised” organs and systems often suffer.
Among the most common lung dysfunctions, he said, including shortness of breath and non-regenerating oxygen saturation, which occur in 70% of those who recover. The specialist also noted various functional and neurological disorders, among them a nervous disorder, asthenovegetative syndrome, as well as a decrease in concentration, which 50-60% of those who have recovered face.
In addition, the expert said that 50% of patients with postcoid syndrome have vascular lesions, and about 20-25% have heart damage. Also, about 25-30% complain of gastrointestinal disorders, including dysfunctions of the liver and pancreas.
Pozdnyakov clarified that one of the factors that affects the development of postcoid syndrome is immunity. As he noted, a weak immune response contributes to a longer stay of the virus in the body.
We will remind, earlier in the Rospotrebnadzor named people who are more likely to have postcoid syndrome, noting that this often occurs in women, but men suffer from coronavirus longer, according to some sources. At the same time, the expert clarified that there is still no reliable data on gender differences during COVID-19.
