The project of the Russian submarine of the fifth generation of the Kalina project received the number 777A. This information is disclosed in the annual report of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Interfax reports.
The specified document states that the projected submarine will be low-tonnage. He also notes, in particular, that “work continues on technical re-equipment in order to create the production of systems, component equipment, devices and mechanisms for a non-nuclear submarine.”
In March, Vice Admiral Oleg Burtsev announced that the Russian Navy could begin receiving fifth-generation nuclear submarines by the end of the next decade.

The Kalina project submarines are to replace Russian third and fourth generation diesel-electric submarines. One of the features of the new submarines should be the presence of VNEU. A number of Western countries, for example, Sweden and Japan, have submarines with VNEU, but they are not classified there as the fifth generation.
