Tests of the Sprut towing vehicle

Petr Troshin, chief designer of the Burevestnik plant and the developer of the Sprut submarine towing vehicle for special forces, appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, RBK reports.

In an open letter to the head of state, he wrote that he was fired in November without explaining the reasons, because of which the design work was disrupted.

Troshin clarified that “by an incomprehensible coincidence” since January 2020, Sergei Starostin has become the general director of the plant, “who has not held his previous several positions for more than a year and a half.” He overturned a Department of Defense decree on the development of diving tugs and fired a number of staff involved in the task.

“As a result, the design work was stopped, the plans were thwarted, the tests were canceled,” the author of the letter said.

The publication asked the Kremlin whether they received a letter of this content, the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov replied in the negative.

In August, at the Army-2020 forum, a sample of the Sprut submarine tug was presented for the first time. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Nikolai Evmenov highly appreciated the latest development and instructed the fleet and industry to conduct their state tests and supply them to security forces.
