A list of digital resources dangerous for the country will appear in Russia by September 2021. It is being worked on by the Federation Council Commission for the Protection of the State Sovereignty of the Russian Federation.
Senators will devote a separate section to the facts of the “destructive influence of foreign digital platforms” in the commission's annual report, said its head Andrei Kimov. He also believes that it is necessary to define the concept of digital sovereignty in the legal field, RIA Novosti reported.
Klimov told reporters about plans to develop a “road map” to protect Russian minors from the destructive influence of the Internet. The document will be drawn up jointly with the relevant departments.
Another issue that the commission is dealing with is the localization of foreign platforms in Russia. Senators propose to urge producers of media content to join the work on the development of domestic sites. With such an initiative, members of the Federation Council can turn to RT.
At the end of April, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that American Internet platforms “behave loosely”, in connection with which it is necessary to work out certain rules. He recalled that European countries, despite their friendship with Washington, are engaged in this issue.
Then the head of the Ministry of Digital Science Maksut Shadayev noted that foreign players do not comply with the requirements of Russian legislation. At the same time, he emphasized that the authorities had prepared proposals to ban Russian companies from paying for advertising to such suppliers.
Shortly before this, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, argued that Moscow does not support a complete ban on the operation of foreign platforms in the Russian Federation. According to him, the head of state Vladimir Putin has repeatedly called for finding a middle ground between the freedom of the Internet and its regulation.
