The Russian Defense Ministry will form a regiment on the basis of the 79th separate motorized rifle brigade, which will strengthen the ground defense of the Kaliningrad region, Izvestia reports.
The location of this regiment is the city of Sovetsk. According to the newspaper, citing sources in the military department, the regiment, along with a number of other units, will become part of a motorized rifle division.
“The division is a powerful fist. On the one hand, it has everything that is necessary for local conflicts. On the other hand, in case of large-scale hostilities, the division has all the necessary means to defend Kaliningrad, ”military expert Vladislav Shurygin said.
According to the military historian Dmitry Boltenkov, “in the end, they will make it so that part of the Russian troops will be oriented towards Poland, and the other towards Lithuania.”
