“The defeat of Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation will be worse for the United States than the defeat in Kabul” – WSJ

The publication warns that Ukraine could become a second Afghanistan for Biden.

The US Congress went on vacation without accepting aid to Ukraine . House Speaker Mike Johnson did not support Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer's proposal to extend the work of both houses of Congress USA for a week to accept additional funding for Ukraine before Christmas. Washington failed to approve a new $61 billion support package for Kyiv on the night of December 7, and the Biden administration faced pressure from Congress.

This is stated in the material of The Wall Street Journal.

As noted in the source, the topic of Ukraine has become “speculative”. They are trying to get the White House to tighten border security with Mexico.

We are talking about internal immigration controls, which Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson and other Republicans insist on strengthening.

The US Congress met for the official “winter recess”

Congress did not reach any agreement on the issues of providing financial assistance to Ukraine and Israel went on vacation.

“This pushes to the key question of whether the United States will really allow differences in its own internal problems to be turned into “betrayal” of Ukrainian interests at the moment of “historical turning point” that Biden personally mentioned in his speech on Tuesday. (…) This is difficult believe, but perhaps it is,” writes WSJ.

According to US President Joe Biden, quoted by the publication, the United States is at the time of a “true turning point in history” that could “define the future” of Europe.

“He's right. Without more American weapons, Ukraine is losing to Vladimir Putin. One of the results of his loss will be an unstable Europe,” the material says.

The WSJ also confirms that Ukraine no longer has enough air defense systems to protect cities from Russian attacks.

“However, Biden seems to be in no hurry to show through his actions that he is really banking on Ukraine in this war,” the media notes.

Biden hesitates

The WSJ also considers the position of the Republicans, namely that they are focusing their efforts on regulating the security of the US internal borders.

“At the same time, it should be understood that Congress must quickly make the right decision for Ukraine before its need for weapons becomes irreparably critical. The slower the supply of weapons, the longer the fighting will continue and the less the likelihood that Ukraine will be able to seize the initiative on the battlefield. Critics Ukraine wants Kiev to negotiate with Russia, but why should Putin negotiate now if he believes that he can very well win?”, writes the media.

Biden is currently hesitant to make a final compromise.

“A captive Ukraine would be a second Afghanistan for Joe Biden. The expected strategic damage – a Putin victory, additional inspiration for China would be much worse than a defeat in Kabul. Republicans do not want to become involved in such a world, but they will if will now leave Ukraine after its people have already given so many lives during two years of war,” the publication notes.

Meanwhile, an investigation is being launched against the US President. House Republicans want US President Joe Biden's impeachment, despite lack of evidence.

Recall that Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said that it is impossible to accept aid to Ukraine by Christmas – even if in the coming days both parties reach an agreement providing for this agreement.
