Microsoft is deactivating its classic Edge browser on March 9th. It is reported by the ITHome edition with reference to the company's materials.
The journalists drew attention to the appeal of Microsoft support representatives. The statement says that after installing a new patch for Windows, the old version of Edge will be removed from the system. The update will begin rolling out on April 13th. After installing the update, it will be impossible to use the classic version of Edge.
Also, the corporation called the timing of the termination of product support. The actual death date for Microsoft Edge is slated for March 9th. After this date, the browser will no longer receive updates – including security updates – and its users will not be serviced by the company's specialists.
At the same time, users of not all versions of Windows will receive the killing classic Edge update in the near future. In particular, in the spring the patch will be released for users of Windows 10 versions 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, 2004, 20H2. Owners of licensed copies of Windows 7 and 8 will be able to continue to use the outdated browser, since there will be no updates for their OS.
The company explained that the new Edge provides better security and compatibility with the Microsoft ecosystem. Thus, after the release of the update, only one built-in browser will remain in the OS.
In early February, journalists revealed that Microsoft plans to remove the classic Edge, based on the EdgeHTML engine, from the system. It will be replaced by a new version of Edge based on the Chromium engine.
