The Danish Parliament urged employees to remove TikTok: what is the reason

An email has been sent to Danish Parliament staff strongly recommending that TikTok be removed.

The Danish Parliament on Tuesday 28 February urged lawmakers and employees not to use the TikTok app on work phones as a cybersecurity measure, saying “there is a risk of espionage.”

It is reported by the Associated Press.

The popular Chinese video-sharing app is facing increased scrutiny from Europe and the US over data security and privacy amid concerns that TikTok could be used to promote pro-Beijing views or collect user information, the AP writes.

The Assembly acted after an assessment by the Danish Cybersecurity Center that there was a risk of espionage. The agency is part of the Danish foreign intelligence service.

It is not yet known exactly how many Danish legislators have installed TikTok. In recent days, several politicians have publicly announced that they have removed the app from their work phone due to cybersecurity concerns.

Earlier this month, European Union executives said they were temporarily banning TikTok from phones used by employees as a cybersecurity measure.

Recall that in Canada, government employees were also banned from using the TikTok social network on their work gadgets . The government of the country believes that this is risky for privacy and security.
