The current year will be shorter than the previous one due to the acceleration of the Earth's rotation. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Physical, Technical and Radio Engineering Measurements.
“According to the preliminary forecast – yes [in short], but only on condition that the current acceleration rates of the Earth's rotation are maintained,” the State Service for Time, Frequency and Determination of the Earth's rotation parameters, which works as part of the Institute, noted.
Earlier it was reported that in 2020, the 28 fastest days in the entire history of observations were recorded at once (since 1960). For example, July 19 last year was shorter by a record 1.4 milliseconds.
Earlier, British scientists discovered the formation of the moon. The researchers found that after the collision of the Earth with Theia, the space object, which became the Moon, released a substance of which it is 80 percent. Under the influence of its own gravity, the Moon was formed as a space object.
