Recall that on April 22, 2018, Reinking, wearing only a green jacket, arrived at the Waffle House restaurant in Nashville, got out of a pickup truck with a rifle and fatally wounded two people who were on the street, including 29-year-old employee of the institution Taurian Sanderlin and 20-year-old customer Joe Perez.
After that, the attacker entered the institution and continued shooting, inflicting gunshot wounds to a 23-year-old student and aspiring rapper Akila Dasilvi and a 21-year-old graduate of DeEboni Groves College. The victims died from their injuries.
Subsequently, one of the visitors of the institution, who was sitting with a friend at the counter, snatched the weapon from the hands of Reinking, after which the latter fled the crime scene on foot.
The prosecution demanded a life sentence without parole, describing Reinking as a mass murderer whose bullets are still tearing apart the lives of relatives of the victims.
The defense urged the jury to put aside emotions and take into account a serious mental illness and delusion, which, according to them, did not even allow Reinking to understand the illegality of his actions.
A year before the shooting, the attacker was also detained for trying to break into the White House to meet with Donald Trump, who was then president of the United States. Earlier, he also claimed that singer Taylor Swift was following him. In addition, Reinking received a warning for swimming naked in a public pool.
