Polish studio CD Project Red returned to gamers more than $ 2 million spent on Cyberpunk 2077. Users complained about a huge number of bugs and errors in the game, which was the main expectation in 2020.
Refunds are reported on the CD Project Red website. The service was requested by about 30,000 gamers, the studio has already satisfied about 95% of applications. Cyberpunk 2077 became the best-selling game in the history of the Polish company, with 13.7 million copies sold.
Despite the abundance of bugs in Cyberpunk 2077 and the losses incurred by CD Project Red because of this, the company's revenue exceeded $ 550 million – four times more than in 2019. The studio's profit grew sixfold to $ 304 million.
“We remain ambitious and do our best to bring Cyberpunk 2077 to a level where everyone can fully enjoy the game, regardless of platform,” said studio CEO Adam Kicinski.
CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077 at the end of May 2012. Initially, the game was supposed to be released on April 16, 2020, but then the developer repeatedly postponed the release to fix all the shortcomings. As a result, Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10, 2020.
Despite the transfers, the bugs could not be avoided – there were so many complaints that Sony decided to withdraw Cyberpunk 2077 from its online store. CDPR's shares plummeted, and the company itself had to apologize for the low-quality console version.
The problems did not end there – in February, hackers stole the source code of Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 games and important internal documents of the developer. The attackers demanded a ransom for the data and eventually sold it to an unknown buyer. The deal was valued at $ 7 million.
