Humanity has not yet learned how to cope with the difficulties that stand in the way of man to Mars. This was told by the Russian cosmonaut Sergei Revin, writes RIA Novosti.
The astronaut talked to children and adults from Argentina during a teleconference between the Buenos Aires Planetarium and Star City. The event was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the first manned flight into space.
Radiation is the main obstacle to humans on their way to the Red Planet, Revin said. When a person is in low-earth orbit, he is protected by radiation belts. In deep space, there is no such protection, and this is deadly for astronauts.
The Russian expressed the hope that scientists will be able to solve this problem in the near future, for example, they will learn how to replace human organs exposed to radiation with artificial ones. However, this technology may only be available to humans in the distant future.
