Dario Fabbri, a leading columnist for the geopolitical magazine Limes, an American political scientist, named a condition for softening the US attitude towards Russia. According to him, only the strengthening of the Chinese threat can lead to this. The expert shared his opinion in an interview with TASS.
Fabbri explained that “warming” is possible if Washington considers Beijing to be a greater threat, against which it will need Moscow's help. “For this it is necessary to distance Russia from China and join it to the anti-Chinese front. But while China does not seem so dangerous to the Americans, and they continue to consider Russia a threat to their interests on the European continent, ”the political scientist noted.
He also added that the United States is afraid of Russia's strengthening in the European market and the conclusion of agreements between Moscow and European countries. According to the expert, Washington will maintain a state of “moderate enmity” towards Russia: not to allow serious clashes, but to keep it in the category of enemies.
According to Fabbri, US presidential candidate Joseph Biden will be even tougher in his rhetoric if he wins the election. At the same time, as the expert believes, little depends on the attitude of the country's leader without the support of federal agencies. “Trump would like to meet Russia halfway, but he is not allowed to do so. (…) Russia is not an important economic power for him, but it can be useful in the confrontation with China, “the observer emphasized.
In the United States, the counting of votes for candidates for the presidency of the country continues. Election day was November 3, but this year, due to the pandemic, voters could also vote by mail, requesting a ballot in advance. The current US president, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden, who served as vice president under Barack Obama, are fighting for the post of head of state. In many states, the difference between applicants is a fraction of a percent.
