Waves can reach 3 meters.
A tsunami hit the coast of Japan after a volcanic eruption that occurred in the kingdom of Tonga (in the South Pacific Ocean). The height of the waves in some places can reach three meters.
This was reported by the Japan Times.
Waves hit the Japanese coast just minutes after the Japan Meteorological Administration's tsunami warning was issued.
In turn, the Japan Meteorological Administration reported that a tsunami threat of up to 3 m was declared in the country. A threat warning is valid for the Japanese islands of Amami and Tokara.
According to the BBC, the eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haapai volcano, which preceded the tsunami, was so powerful that it could be heard at a distance of 800 km.
In addition, in the Kuril Islands, after the eruption of an underwater volcano near the islands of Tonga, there was also a threat of a tsunami. The wave can come with a height of no more than 0.2 meters.
