The head coach of the Russian national hockey team, Alexei Zhamnov, reacted to the refusal of the National Hockey League (NHL) to participate in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. This was reported by the Match TV Telegram channel.
The specialist spoke about the increased chances of the Russians to win, but refused to consider the team the main favorite of the Games in China. “This is the Olympic Games, and anything can happen here. We are not the main favorites, we are one of the favorites – yes, ”- said Zhamnov.
The NHL's refusal to release hockey players to the Games became known on December 22. The decision was made due to the increased number of coronavirus cases in the league.
The Winter Olympics will be held for the second time in a row without an NHL representative. Four years ago, at a tournament in Pyeongchang, the Russians won gold medals, beating the German national team in the final.
