The senior coach of the Russian men’s biathlon team, Yuri Kaminsky, praised Eduard Latypov’s performance in the mixed relay at the Beijing Olympics. He cites his words Sports.ru .

“Edik in vain climbed the last descent first. It was necessary to sit at least the second, and maybe the third. He has no such experience,” the coach explained the biathlete’s mistake. Kaminsky said that on the track he advised Latypov to let the opponent go ahead. The coach added that the athlete himself, when he saw the track, said that it was necessary to go for someone here, but he did not do it today.

Earlier Latypov explained the loss at the finish of the mixed relay. “I made a small leap on the last descent, but it wasn’t enough to win,” the biathlete shared. He noted that the rivals rolled very well at the finish and were able to get ahead of him.

The Russian national team won bronze in the first biathlon race at the Games. Besides Latypov, Ulyana Nigmatullina, Kristina Reztsova and Alexander Loginov competed in the mixed relay. The winners of the race were biathletes from Norway. The second place according to the results of the relay was taken by the French.

Biathlon competitions at the Olympics will last until February 19. A total of 11 sets of awards will be played. Domestic athletes perform under the auspices of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
