The German government should not support the introduction of new Western sanctions against Russia, and we are talking not only about measures against the energy sector, but also any other in general. This was stated by the deputy of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party Stefan Kotre in a conversation with .

Commenting on the possibility of abandoning Russian gas and replacing it with another one — for example, to establish supplies from Australia – the deputy replied that it would be more expensive. In addition, it will have an even more detrimental impact on the environment.

“From an economic point of view, it is absurd to replace safe and efficient gas supplies from Russia with supplies from the other side of the planet. Further diversification of the supplier group makes sense only if the original supplier has problems and they cannot be avoided. Since Russia has always fulfilled its supply obligations, at present I do not see the need for alternatives,” Cotre explained.

Earlier, Bloomberg, citing sources, wrote that Germany calls on the United States and European countries to make an exception for the energy sector when imposing anti-Russian sanctions on Ukraine. At the same time, the agency’s interlocutors are confident that the exception will not affect the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. Washington is looking for a replacement for Russian gas and is discussing this with other potential suppliers.
