Germany fears that the United States and the European Union may impose sanctions against Russia’s energy sector, which will jeopardize gas supplies to Europe. This was stated by the deputy of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party Stefan Kotre in a conversation with
“This is a clear sign of the federal government’s fears that the ongoing tense situation with energy supply will lead to significant discontent among the population. Unfortunately, the German government does not realize that its confrontational policy is ideological in nature and harms its own interests,” the politician said.
In his opinion, Germany should prove its sovereignty and refuse to support new sanctions against the Russian Federation, also canceling the old ones.
According to Bloomberg, the package of sanctions that Germany agrees to involves travel bans and asset freezes of oligarchs, restrictions on investments in Russia, a trade ban on some state-owned Russian enterprises, which will actually force them to leave the stock markets.
