Bundestag deputy from the Left Party, representative of the Foreign Policy Committee Sevim Dagdelen, in an interview with TASS, called Russia's demand for the non-expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance to the East understandable, and also called on all countries involved in resolving the crisis around Ukraine to take into account not only their own interests, but also those of other parties .
“Russia's demands to fix the refusal to accept Ukraine and Georgia into NATO in a treaty are clear and understandable against the backdrop of the expansion of the alliance to the east, contrary to the promises made in the past. The concept of indivisible security proposed by Russia can become a good basis for negotiations on future peaceful relations,” she said.
The politician noted that Berlin, for its part, needs to make efforts to ensure security guarantees for all parties, preventing the outbreak of military conflicts. She also pointed to the West's policy of double standards, in which the movement of Russian troops across its territory is regarded as preparation for an invasion, while the strengthening of NATO near the Russian borders is not.
Earlier, French presidential candidate Valerie Pecresse opposed Ukraine's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance, promising that she would deny Kiev membership in the association. “We need to speak openly with the Ukrainians and say that their entry into NATO is not on the agenda,” she said.
