Vladimir Zelensky arrived in the UK on February 8 to meet with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The meeting will probably talk about the provision of long-range weapons to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots.
Military expert Yigal Levin reported this to Channel 24 . He is sure that the decision to train Ukrainian pilots means that Ukraine will receive aircraft this year.
Levin stressed that one should separate the political decision and the technical possibilities of military assistance to Ukraine. A political solution is being developed right now, it is being discussed. Technical issues have also begun to be resolved, the speaker suggested.
I'm almost sure that Zelensky's visit to the UK is largely related to aviation. The UK will be the flagship in this matter, as happened with tanks, the expert added.
He is convinced that after the UK, the decision on the transfer of aircraft will be made by other countries.
What aircraft can Ukraine get
According to Levin, first of all, Ukraine should receive fourth-generation aircraft, for example, Eurofigfter and F-16. After all, training pilots to master the F-35 can take not just months, but years. Poland switched from Soviet weapons to the F-16 for 15 years.
When there is a war, of course, everything goes as fast as possible. Pilots can be trained in 6-8 months, but there is unconfirmed information that this began last year, the expert said.
He is convinced that if training has not begun earlier, then it is realistic to train pilots and ground personnel to control and maintain Western fighters by the end of this year.
