British troops sent to Ukraine to train local troops will soon return to the UK. This development was promised by British Defense Minister Ben Wallace following talks with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Interfax reports.
Wallace also spoke about the defensive nature of the weapons that London supplies to Kiev. “The weapons that we have provided to the Ukrainians are defensive tactical weapons, not strategic, they are short-range, they are designed for protection,” he said.
According to the minister, British weapons in Ukraine cannot threaten a neighboring state until that state invades the country. He also stressed that the British military were on Ukrainian territory solely to train Ukrainian colleagues.
Earlier, Wallace noted that Russian Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov once again spoke about Moscow's lack of plans to invade Ukraine. He added that NATO would still insist on the right of each country to choose its allies, despite the fears of the Russian side.
