The body of the captain of a dry cargo ship sunk off the coast of Turkey was found

Rescue services found the body of the captain of a dry cargo ship that sank off the coast of Turkey. This was reported by the press service of Rosmorrechflot, reports on Monday, January 18, TASS.

“The deceased was identified as a citizen of Russia, the captain of the vessel Vitaly Galenko,” the press service said. Rosmorrechflot clarified that they received this information from the Turkish coast guard. Five more people from the ship are reported to be still at sea.

The dry cargo ship was flying from Georgia to Bulgaria and sank off the coast of the Turkish province of Bartin at about 1 pm on Sunday 17 January. The ship owner was the Ukrainian company Arvin Shipping LTD. According to the latest data, there were 12 crew members on board. Two of them are Russian citizens, the rest are Ukrainians.

Earlier it became known that six sailors from the sunken dry cargo ship were rescued. Among the found crew members is a Russian – the ship's chief engineer. He said that the ship sank due to bad weather conditions.
