According to economists, the 45% devaluation of the Belarusian ruble is only the beginning.

During the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Belarusian ruble depreciated by about 45% against the dollar.

It is reported by Radio Svaboda.

As of March 13, the official exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble against the National Bank was 3 rubles 29 kopecks per US dollar. But in fact, it is almost impossible to buy a dollar at this rate.

Commercial banks set rates at exchange offices, starting at 3 rubles 39 kopecks per dollar. On February 23, the last day before the war, banks gave an average of 2 rubles 60 kopecks for one US dollar.

The devaluation of the Belarusian currency against the dollar for the population during the 17 days of the war in Ukraine amounted to about 45%. The largest drop in the exchange rate since the 1990s occurred only in 2011. Then the exchange rate changed at a time by more than 50%. The Belarusian ruble fell three times over that year.

The 45 percent devaluation of the Belarusian ruble in the first 17 days of Russia's war against Ukraine is just the beginning, economists say. Economist, senior analyst at BEROC Lev Lvovsky said that ordinary Belarusians, legal entities and even companies are now trying to exchange rubles for foreign currency.

Several Belarusians told reporters that it is now becoming a big problem to withdraw currency even from their accounts.

Earlier it was reported that in Belarus, 17 km from the Ukrainian border, Russia deployed its base.
