The Baltic States plan to ban Russian ships from entering their ports

According to the Minister of Transport of Latvia, despite the sanctions imposed on Russian and Belarusian companies, the movement of goods is now taking place.

The government of Latvia intends to ban Russian ships from entering its ports. Latvian Transport Minister Talis Linkaits said that Lithuania and Estonia could make such a decision.

Latvian Minister Talis Linkaits spoke about this on TV3.

“We hoped that there will be a common decision of the European Union. We see that there are countries that strongly oppose this (bans – IF), so it is obvious that the decision will be regional,” said Linkites.

He added that, despite to the sanctions imposed on Russian and Belarusian companies, the movement of goods is now taking place. According to the most pessimistic forecasts, in the port of Ventspils the decrease in cargo turnover will be two-thirds, in Riga about 45%, in Liepaja 20-30%.

Earlier it was reported that the European Union is discussing the fifth a package of sanctions against Russia, which is planned to include the issue of imposing an oil embargo.
