Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anushauskas said that the Baltic countries agreed to provide military and non-military support to Ukraine in the event of Russia's escalation.
– The escalation of the Russian Federation against Ukraine requires proper consideration – Russia's actions require additional containment measures from NATO, – Anushauskas stressed after meeting with the defense ministers from Latvia Artis Pabriks and Estonia Kalle Laanet on December 21.
The ministers agreed that the concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border is a dangerous attempt by the Russian Federation to undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine, which seeks to join NATO.
– The Baltic countries strongly support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the inviolability of its borders, as well as ongoing reforms in the country's defense sector. If necessary, the Baltic states are ready to provide Ukraine with very quick support, both military and non-military. Our unity and support of Ukraine is very important, – stressed the head of the Lithuanian defense minister.
Following the meeting, the Baltic defense ministers signed a joint statement.
It defines general plans of action in the field of security and defense for 2022.
Earlier it was reported that Western media, citing sources in the US intelligence, write that Russia continues to pull troops to border with Ukraine.
Prior to this, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reported that the Alliance did not see any signs that the number of Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine was decreasing.
