In particular, Estonia will build a defense line of 600 bunkers on the eastern border.

Estonia will build a defense line of approximately 600 concrete bunkers on the eastern border to repel possible Russian aggression. The vast majority of bunkers will be built in Ida-Virumaa and south-eastern Estonia, but some will also be located near Lake Peipus.

The Estonian publication Postimees.ee writes about this.

At a meeting in Riga on Friday, the Baltic defense ministers agreed that Latvia and Lithuania would also create a similar defensive zone on the eastern border. For NATO, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are one operational zone.

According to Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor of the Ministry of Defense Kaido Tiitus, physical protection facilities on the border are needed in order to if necessary, defend the territory of Estonia from the first meter.

“Russia is and will be the biggest threat to Estonia's security. The war in Ukraine has reduced Russia's offensive power, but, according to various estimates, it is ready to restore it within two to three years. We must be prepared and make a price attacks on Estonia are as high as possible for Russia,” Tiitus said. He added that defense facilities are needed in case of a possible attack, in order to delay the enemy on the border and give the allies time to come to the rescue.

Bunkers will protect the military from enemy fire and shell fragments. The condition for the strength of the bunker being built is that it must withstand a direct hit from a 152 mm caliber projectile.

Each bunker is designed for ten people. The size of the bunker is 30-35 square meters and it is designed in such a way that the unit can resist the enemy for a longer period of time. Among other things, each bunker also has a sleeping place.

Tiitus stated that in recent years Estonia has improved the eastern border and built protective fences there, but they work in peacetime and, unfortunately, do not have much effect in wartime.

Recall that the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, is obsessed with the idea of restoring the Russian Empire. Therefore, citizens of Latvia must be prepared for a hybrid war, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs said yesterday.
